Periodontics

Periodontitis (also called periodontosis) is often only recognised in its advanced stages and thus leads to tooth loss in many cases. Periodontitis is even a widespread disease: every second person has periodontal problems.

Periodontitis frequency

Adolescents: <15 years: 12.6% suffer from moderate and 0.8% from severe periodontitis.
Adults: 52.7% suffer from a moderate and 20.5% from a severe form of the disease. One reason for the negative development is the fact that fewer teeth are being lost to caries in adults today, but the teeth that are preserved pose an increasing risk of periodontal disease with increasing age.
Seniors: Periodontitis is most prevalent among seniors. 48% of this age group are affected by a moderate and 39.8% by a severe form of the disease.
